The Embarrassment of Having Seen One
This is my account of observed aerial phenomena over the city of Kihei, Maui County, Hawaii, on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at approximately 11:11am [not kidding] to 11:17am Maui Time.
It was my habit every Sunday to visit the shopping center just inland from Kalama Park in south Maui. By long habit, I would do this shopping between 2pm and 4pm, but recently had been making morning excursions more in the 10am to 12pm time frame. I mention this because this habit is what put me at the bus stop at that time of that day of the week. The shopping would consist of used DVD movies at the consignment store and various groceries at the local conventional grocery store.
Several weeks prior to this incident, somebody dropped off the entire 8 seasons of The X-Files along with the entire “Mythology” DVD X-Files collection focusing on the alien invasion motif. I don’t have cable or broadcast television, so this was just the thing I like to see for sale, as it would go nicely with my full series of “The Prisoner”and “Jonny Quest.” I immediately bought “Mythology” series. Two weeks later, I bought season 4; and a week after that season 5.
Season 5 was in my day pack as I sat cross-legged on the ground in the shade of a tree, waiting for the bus that morning. I’d been enjoying the show very much. The “Mythology” series is very movie-like without all the commercial interruption and seems a natural set-up to the movie “The X-Files: Fight The Future” which I thought was a worthy culmination for the series. In fact, “Mythology” and “Fight The Future” make a great mini-series better than “Dune.”
It had crossed my mind who on earth could it be that dropped off an entire pristine “X-Files” collection. They were pristine. Naturally at the time it was a fleeting speculation as I assumed I would never know the answer. The reason I mention this is because I found it odd at the time of these purchases and then its coincidence in my life with this siting, particularly also fulfilling Robert Anton Wilson’s notorious “Law Of Fives” with the 5th season gives me pause and is also somewhat annoying.
I have seen strange aerial phenomena before, but at distances so far away I could only see a point of light acting oddly. I could not see anything of the actual object which would have helped me determine if it was organism, mechanism, electromagnetic or what have you. But, because of these previous experiences, I was also familiar with the furtive evasive hovering of these objects and their additional ability to shoot away into the distant background sky at rates of speed far in excess of any missile I ever saw launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
It did not initially occur to me and took a day for me to realize that what first called my attention to the object was a bright flash of light as if someone was using a mirror to flash sunlight in one’s face. I believe that this is exactly what happened: sunlight glinted off the airborne object into my face. This was due to the fact that the object appeared to be highly polished metal as silver as a mirror is silver.
I turned to look at where the flash came from. I was looking into airspace over and beyond the facade of the grocery store I had just been shopping in. Later, I google earthed this line of sight and noted that it intersected the R&D Park above Pi’ilani Highway and also the Jehovah’s Witnesses parking lot. I am still struggling in my mind with determining my actual distance from the object. I’m currently of the opinion that it was closer to me than Pi’ilani Highway. If it was at the R&D park, quite some distance farther away, then it was much larger than I had assumed, perhaps 600 feet in diameter rather than the 160 feet I had initially speculated. It should not be surprising to see a craft of this type over or near the R&D Park, since it is public knowledge that the Department of Defense has a world-class supercomputer installation there that is involved in trans-Pacific telecommunication. Perhaps not as well known is the fact that the Mid-Pacific Disaster Planning Center is directly adjacent to the supercomputer complex. Close inspection of the desert around the R&D Park via Google Earth also demonstrates that there is or was recently an underground facility of some kind nearby [this was demonstrated to me by a friend some years ago in Maui showing ventilation etc, but I have been unable to confirm this in my recent searches.]
As I looked in this direction, I saw what appeared to be a silvery twisting-turning liquid-like toroidal object moving in the furtive evasion pattern I have observed in other aerial objects. It was shimmering as if I was seeing it through intense heat waves. My first thought was "okay, some kid has let go of one of those mylar balloons and it is being buffeted in the breeze." It was easy to falsify this because after more than 10-15 seconds of observation, I could detect the “hurky-jerky” 90degree sharp turns of the mechanical evasion pattern [even through the heat waves] and I was able to get a better view of the object which I determined to be saucer-like in shape, of shining mirror-silver colored metal and I had a distinct impression of no convex dome on the “top,” but rather a concave area. [I’ve speculated this may have been my misinterpretation of the convex dome as concave, as at the time I saw it the saucer was on a diagonal and moving jerkily.]
I was excited that I was seeing an actual flying saucer! Not some tiny light in the sky, but the actual mechanism! I thought to myself, it it is a real flying saucer, then I should be able to contact it mentally. Without hesitation, I “reached out” mentally with a friendly “I can see you” kind of thought. The reaction was immediate.
Suddenly, the craft stopped mid-air and whatever had been obstructing my view disappeared. It was the classic flying saucer, like an upside-down metal saucer plate. It increased its elevation slightly and I had the sense it was “looking around.” I simply continued to openly stare at it. It stopped again and then slowly moved horizontally to put a telephone pole in the way of my sight. [I found this humorous.] Naturally, I leaned to my right so I could see it again and thought to it “What are you doing? You know I can see you!”
It again did a slight elevation increase. I thought, it’s going to leave! If it shoots off like a bullet, then I’ll know that it was a UFO. By “UFO,” I, of course, meant a vehicle of extraterrestrial origin. Right after that it slowly [as compared to shooting off like a bullet] went straight up into the sky.
O my God, you’re going to do it, I remember thinking. You’re going to do it. O My God!
After a short distance up, it began to drift off towards my right, as if to put itself between me and the sun. A glint of sunlight bounced off it on me and I noticed from the feeling on my skin, face and arms, that the sunlight’s vibration seemed altered. This occurred while it was shifting on a diagonal during one phase of the ascent. It ended up slightly passing the sun nearly as high as the cirrus cloud veil that pervaded the sky at that time. I find it not unreasonable to estimate the cirrus at about 40,000 feet. While the saucer may not have been that high, I find it reasonable to estimate that it ascended to at least the 30,000 [and possibly within 1,000 feet of the clouds] foot level in under ten seconds, silently and with absolutely no visible propulsion. This was not bullet-like, but more like a very fast elevator.
Not only was it near the sun from my point of view, but it also maneuvered behind the palm tree at the bus stop location so I had to step out from behind the tree to see it. At this point, it appeared as a large black dot as one might make with a pencil or pen [the one I just made on paper was about an eight of inch in diameter.] It held position up there.
After gazing at it for another twenty seconds or so, when I had to look away and step back in the shade because of the sun, I thought, why is there nobody around to point this stuff out to when it is happening?? After a few minutes, during which time I occasionally looked back up and the perfectly round black dot was still there, two young men in their mid-twenties came walking by. I immediately hailed them and pointed at the object. One of the young men ignored me and walked away. The other came over and looked up where I was pointing as I asked, “do you see that? It’s a flying saucer. It was just down here moments ago!” He looked up for five to ten seconds as I was pointing and verbally describing it. “OH MY GOD!” he exclaimed. But I couldn’t get him to say that he saw it too. Without another word, he walked away.
Well, I guess that’s it, I thought. I looked up at the black dot. It just sat there. Watching me. I stood back in the shade to wait for the bus.
After a very short time, perhaps ninety seconds, there was suddenly a huge, turd-like cloud directly over the entire area. For a second I thought it was cane burn, but suddenly realized that two minutes ago, it was an empty sky except for the cirrus veil. Also, it was thick disgusting feces-brown smog like I remembered from my youth in Los Angeles. The entire area - - the shopping center, the “triangle” shopping area and bars, and Kalama Park was in shadow. This was a very warm June morning and the heat was probably mid-eighties. Suddenly, a stiff chill wind blew through, oddly from south to north. [This is significant because people who live here can tell you the cold air, the "trade winds," comes from the north.] The entire area was in shadow! I looked up and the black dot was gone. Immediately, I suspected that the flying saucer had made this cloud and was inside of it [the cloud was completely dense and opaque.] If this was true, it could have been very close indeed.
As luck would have it, the bus I was waiting for pulled up and I boarded. After the two mile ride down to my neighborhood, I got out and saw that the huge cloud was down where I had just been. It does look like a turd, I thought.
As I was walking up the hill to my home, observing the distant cloud as I traveled, it was as if a voice in my head said, you’re one of the smart ones.
Talking In My Head! I thought back, surprised and perhaps a bit indignant.
That is the story in toto. There was no further observation nor interaction on that day.
I hereby attest to the veracity of what I have written here. I have in no way attempted to add any details or descriptions that did not occur.

Okay, this is the part where i speculate and otherwise detail my musings on this experience.
I start with what i am speculating to be some basics that might come in handy. This is based primarily on this experience, but also informed by my previous & subsequent odd incidents.
Take A Second Look At Heatwaves unless they are occurring exactly where you have seen them before or you can easily determine that heatwaves would be likely right where you are looking.
"Herky-Jerky" Behavior At The Corner Of Your Eye may not be a brainsquiggle or floating broken veins in your eyeball. You should turn your head and look.
They Appear To Be Under a NonObservation Order which is the only reason i can imagine why that craft would go out of its way to not be seen by someone of relatively small consequence like me. This might only be true of these solo exploratory or refueling missions, or this particular race.
They Can Apparently Communicate Telepathically so you do not have to panic or gesticulate to get their attention. I cannot even say how wise it is to try to get their attention. I only know that i spontaneously made that choice myself.
There May Be More Than One Kind i've read a bit of ufo mythology as mythology. which means i didn't discount that some might be based on actual events, but i was more primarily interested in the psychological truths that would produce such myths [as certainly some UFOlore is fictional and wish-fulfilling, but which?] but if one was to accept a basic paradigm as have actual factual validity, then we might easily assume various races of different origin, which seems borne out in the accruing literature and reports.
Here's a glimpse of what we might hope they are like
well, possibly not, but a wonderful vision!
here's an interesting and perhaps most comprehensive ET mythos
